Music
My current primary concert is Chopin's Polonaises and Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.
For Thanksgiving-January, most places want Christmas stuff, so I've learned Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, A Fresh Aire Christmas, and Christmas in the Aire (album).
Pricing
In 2022 I charge $125 for a one hour concert.
I started playing professionally at eldercare facilities at 13 (my mom handled booking). By 9th grade I was making $75 for a one hour concert (~$125 in 2021, with ~66% cumulative inflation from 1999). I had a music professor who asserted the minimum fee for a concert by a reasonably skilled musician should be equivalent to a full day’s work by a professional. The minimum your facility should pay any competent musician (and me) for a one hour concert is 20% of your average pretax weekly salary as activity director. Your distance from St. Peters is relevant. I'm flexible on pricing, especially if you're able to schedule multiple hours in the same trip, for example by coordinating with another facility.
Scheduling
Most places already have my email and phone. Or give me your email on my contact form.
My calendar shows when I'm booked.
Tell me if I need to bring my keyboard (this is rare).
I'm COVID vaccinated and can wear a mask.
My concerts work best as concerts, with an audience that self-selected to be there and came only to listen. I discourage live music during meals or events - anything where people showed up for another reason. This may seem an obvious way to get more value out of hiring musicians (or to remind visiting relatives that you have activities). However I'm not alone in finding live background music irritating. The noise floor is high with people talking, and lousy venue acoustics often exacerbate an adversarial arms race between those trying to comprehend conversations. People nearby feel entitled to tell me to play more quietly. Then a staff member opens the piano lid because those in back can't hear the music. And it's a pianoforte, not a harpsichord: dynamic range is the whole point. Amphitheaters, cathedrals and concert halls are engineered for this; the lobby or cafeteria of an assisted living facility packed with relatives trying to talk with the hearing impaired will have predictable results. But like your facility (especially if it's a "non-profit"), I do this for money, so of course I'll play background music for your big family visitation advertising showcase abomination.
Facilities should have a permanent email address for use by musicians, for example activities@facility.com. Rather than emails associated with the name of the current activity director, who tend to have high turnover.
